Ancient Greece. Introductory article .

 

Attractive force and charm of Antiquity is so great, that all new generations of researchers try to understand and somehow to touch her sources. Probably, your occurrence on this site, dear reader of these pages, also is not by accident!

 

The trace of Ancient Greece is deep and extensive, without it is impossible to present much of what we have as society and civilization. On ground of Classical Antiquity have developed seeds of humanity, civil valor, thinking and creativity. There are the beginning of any reasonable public life, all prototypes and ideals of modern Western civilization.

 

The French philosopher and the historian of XIX century Joseph-Ernest Renan has named a phenomenon of Hellenic culture as «the Greek miracle» and it is actually so. Amazingly fast of blossoming a Science, the Literature, Philosophy and Art for a long time draws attention of scientists from different profession. Our section ‘The Ancient Greece’ is called to promote the best understanding the richest heritage of Classical Greece.

 

‘Studying of Greeks and Romans is a great school, noble, kind and fine, it is the school of humanity. It has unconditional value – not only for this or that person, but also for all epoch, for all mankind... It is twisted by strong ties in all modern culture, in destiny of mankind’ - so wrote in XVIII century German writer and critic Friedrich von Schlegel.

 

In our site we shall try together with you, our dear reader, to touch the most interesting sections of Hellenic cultures – a History, Philosophy, the Literature, a Science and Art, in the widest spectrum of all scientific disciplines. As your obedient servant is an architect and artist, I shall pay more attention to questions of architecture and arts.
